I turned vegan in 2015, and the hard part was not giving up dairy. It was staying. Fresh, dairy-free food simply wasn’t accessible here, and what sat on the shelves was full of preservatives and stabilisers.
So in June 2017 I made one batch of almond milk in my own kitchen, for my own family. Almonds, water, a pinch of pink salt. Nothing else. I bottled it before the sun came up and left it cold on a few doorsteps. That was the first morning of Break of Dawn.
