how much almond is actually in almond milk?
We make ours with about 72 g of almonds per 300 ml bottle. Here is what that means in the glass, and how to read the label on any almond milk.
the number, plainly
Our almond milk is made with about 72 g of almonds per 300 ml bottle. The rest is water and a pinch of pink salt. Three ingredients, and the almonds are the point.
Every almond milk prints what is in it, in the small print under “ingredients”. Ours is the short version: almonds, water, a pinch of pink salt.
why some almond milks need more
A drink that has to survive months at room temperature needs help: emulsifiers to hold it together, gums for body. That is not cheating, it is simply what shelf-stable means.
It is also a different product from milk made mostly of almonds. Ours separates in the bottle precisely because nothing is holding it together, that layer at the top is almond, not a fault. Shake it.
how to read any almond milk label
Look for the amount of almonds on the label: brands that use a lot tend to say so, because almonds cost real money. Then read the ingredient list and count.
Then hold the bottle to the light. A pour that is dense with almonds is opaque.
